Left Behind

December 5th, 2006

Here’s one more thing to post.

This is a song that’s been around a while, but it sort of evolved through working with my bandmate Rob. This is one of the poppiest songs we’ve put together, which I will take all the blame for. Here is a four-track demo of it, done in Keith’s kitchen with practice amps and electronic drums. I tacked on the vocals at home. Since we don’t have a myspace page yet (or even a settled band name), I’m gonna post this here.

“Left Behind” by unnamed project (Teeth Like Tombs??) recorded Dec. 3, 2006. (download link)

Covered in wounds and sores, I let you bandage me with strips of cotton-polyester blend, still warm and scented from your breasts.

Still deafened by the blast, I read your lips and focus on the tongue that flits between your teeth, the lacerations on your cheeks.

Sheltered by twisted beams and scorched debris, our fingers skip in disbelief across each other’s bruised bodies.

Left behind but still alive:
We tremble that it should be so.
Left behind and still alive:
No paradise could be so lovely.

Laughing into the winds of somebody’s apocalypse, we focus on the majesty of sticking with reality.

If each of us receives the afterlife that he deserves, I’ll take this human life on earth, miraculous enough by far.

And we can stand together, outlines ‘gainst a dusty sky, eager to rebuild a world the believers left behind.

Left behind but still alive:
We tremble that it should be so.
Left behind and still alive:
No paradise could be so lovely.

After I finish up my semester (a couple more days), I’ll finish up this website and try to get everything to work. Should be easy, right?

The design of this site is original but is based on the the work of various amazing artists of the past, especially that of Alphonse Mucha. I’ve also incorporated some of the work of Grandville, Edmund J. Sullivan, and Henry van de Velde. The fonts used for headings are Berlin Regular and Airplane (Maniackers Design).

I aim for valid Valid XHTML and CSS. Handcoding rocks; a thousand curses upon antiseptic web design. This site is glued together with WordPress. Complete sentences, proper punctuation, and good typography are also off the hook. And oh yeah, use Firefox.

Feeds are available for XML monodrone.org (entire website) or XML Harmonies (this section).
